E-waste management also called urban mining is the process of extracting the parts out of the e-waste to either sell or reuse. Bangalore often pertained as the "Silicon Valley of India", gives birth to a growing informal e-waste recycling sector. Based on rapid growing waste stream and valuable resources, hazardous substances and low recycling rate, the management and recycling of E-waste was assessed in the city of Bangalore.
Some locals and migrant workers, scavenge discarded computer equipment and extract base metals using toxic, unsafe methods if not discarded properly. There are many organisations that help in recycling the E-waste in Bangalore. E- Parisaraa Private Limited, Saahas Zero Waste, Supreme Technologies are some of the waste management services in Bangalore.
There are many other ways to discard or manage your electronic waste, you could either resell or recycle it or can give it under exchange offers. “My family when buy’s new machines, they either resell the former one or exchange it for the new one”, says Deeksha, a student. Sometimes its also better to just repair you machines if you can instead of buying a new one. “We prefer to repair our electronics instead of buying a new one if we can”, says Archana.
In conclusion, there is always a better way to discard or reuse your electronics without harming the environment. It’s important to manage your waste properly and spread public awareness of electronic waste management as the amount of waste in increasing with the increase in climate change and global warming.
