Industrial waste is more often considered as hazardous waste which can or cannot be reused or recycled. In a vast city like Bangalore where industrial waste is as big deal as its traffic, Here when we talk about industrial waste we all know that 65% of India’s waste is from industries in simple words out of 1.4 Lakh tonnes of waste generated everyday in India in which 90 thousand tonnes are from factories, local industries, small scale industries, garage and many more. While waste management has gained considerable attention due to it being one of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’s primary objectives, changes with regard to handling of hazardous waste is yet to be reflected. Overflowing landfills and disregard for the rules continues to be problems in handling hazardous waste. India must up its waste recycling percentage from a mere 5 per cent to much more in order to stem the environmental and health risks India’s stagnant garbage mounds pose. Now the question is, are these small scale industries aware of it? Apparently few industries like ply-wood, local garages, bed sheet factories, commercial traders, itinerant buyers, scrap dealers are not aware of this composition.Thereby under section 423,434,426[clause (e)(f)and (ef)of rule 15 of solid waste management rules (SWM) 2016;Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) hereby makes the bye-laws for waste production.
These rules tend to make our environment and atmosphere a better place but these local bodies in order to avoid the services charges they do not contact KSPCB (i.e Karnataka state pollution control board), as they have their own equipment and tackled procedure to remove the waste nuisance as per the information and details we received from retailers they are hardly known for following the rules according to them burning the wastage from their industries in landfills is what resolves all the problems. If there is anything which can reused, it is eventually turned to another texture and the remaining part is dumped at the yard. It works the same with garages too. The workers with all due respect only finish their work of fixing the vehicle’s part and throw the rest at the end of store or at backyard, garage products and tools are quite hazardous we all know its mostly because of grease which cannot be reused and can only to be recycled only after the government’s following BBMP rules.
